Trenton Health Centre Work Continues

January 8, 2018

As published by Luke Hendry of The Trentonian, work continues in an effort to move the Trenton Community Health Hub project forward.

"Construction of this city’s new Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centre could begin as early as this summer. But the Trenton Community Health Hub project, which is to occupy space in the centre’s lowest level, is still pending provincial approval. The Community Health Centre (CHC) is based currently at 70 Murphy St. in Trenton and at the corner of Bridge Street East and Sidney Street in Belleville.

Executive director Sheila Braidek said planning for the new Trenton building continues. It will be on Catherine Street, opposite Trenton Memorial Hospital. Once occupied fully, it will also be the home of several community agencies, allowing visitors to see various professionals and service providers in a single visit.

And for CHC staff, who’ve waited several years while the hub concept was debated, “it’s very exciting” to see construction coming into view, Braidek said in a telephone interview. “We’re hoping we’re on track for approvals to proceed and ultimately have shovels in the ground this summer.”

Construction of the CHC portion of the three-storey building should take about a year to complete, opening in the fall of 2020. “That assumes everything goes well,” Braidek said. “The main floor is primarily clinic space and one-to-one counselling,” Braidek said. Above that will be a meeting space, community kitchen and administrative offices."
